BlackWidow(TM) Victory At FedEx St. Jude’s Classic Marks 159th PGA TOUR Win; Softspikes Brand Has Now Been #1 On The PGA TOUR For 10 Consecutive Years
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (May 30, 2006) – PrideSports, maker of Softspikes(R), the world’s leading golf cleat company, recorded its 159th PGA TOUR win for Softspikes-brand cleats when the winner of the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic wore BlackWidow(TM) cleats. This win marks the second consecutive week that Softspikes has dominated the field, and won a TOUR event, as the winner of the Bank of America Colonial wore Pulsar(R). Further, this victory coincides with an unprecedented milestone for Softspikes, as the world’s #1 selling cleat brand is celebrating its 10th consecutive year as the #1 cleat on TOUR.
"10 straight years as the #1 cleat on the PGA TOUR puts Softspikes in an elite class within the golf equipment industry, especially for a product that players are not paid to wear or endorse," said Dan Tilton, Vice President of Sales, PrideSports. "To have the best players in the world choose our brand for such an extended period of time speaks volumes of the comfort and traction characteristics of Softspikes cleats."
Pulsar features Softspikes’ proprietary Reactive Comfort Technology(TM), which delivers maximum comfort and performance via a 16 component design that reacts to every angle of force exerted by the golfer. Flexor knuckles placed at the flex point on each of Pulsar’s eight legs offers enhanced strength, responsiveness and more than twice the flexibility of any cleat on the market. In addition, reinforced arched webbing between each of Pulsar’s legs delivers instant energy return every time the cleat is compressed, providing unmatched stability and comfort.
In 2006, PrideSports partnered with Golf Digest(R) on a first-of-its-kind promotion whereby golfers who purchase a pack of Pulsar cleats receive a 12-month subscription to the magazine. To date, the promotion has been a tremendous success as 1st quarter sales of Pulsar cleats are on record pace backed by Softspikes placing over 5500 Point of Purchase (POP) displays at U.S.-based retail establishments, including green grass and off-course shops, which carry Softspikes-brand cleats.
Softspikes is a division of Pride Sports, which was formed in January 2003, following Pride Manufacturing Company’s purchase of Softspikes, Inc., and its sister company Trisport, Ltd. of England. This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premier golf accessories company, as Pride and Softspikes are the world’s leading golf tee and golf cleat lines, respectively. Today, Pride Sports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.
