‘GolfServ Advantage Team Championship’ Events Offer Golfers Exciting, Innovative Weekly Tournaments To Comply With New USGA Playing Requirements And Earn A Chance To Win A Dream Trip To Scotland

NEW YORK (May 30, 2006) – GOLF.com announced today that its exclusive membership club, GolfServ Advantage, will sponsor the GolfServ Advantage Team Championship, an exciting series of local golf competitions designed to assist players in meeting the new United States Golf Association (USGA) playing requirements. The program, using the patented Matrix Golf Methodology(TM), allows golfers to play in the GolfServ Advantage Team Championship at their favorite local golf courses as opposed to a designated tournament site, encouraging members to play with other club members and easily meet the new USGA playing requirements.

The Matrix Golf Methodology(TM), U. S. Patent # 6,571,143, explains James Mallamo, president of Matrix Golf, Inc., "was created to allow golfers to play in the same competition at multiple golf courses. The Matrix Golf Methodology(TM) takes into account the playing difficulty of the golf courses, e.g., USGA Course Rating, Slope Rating, etc.; then adjusts scores accordingly to calculate Matrix Scores(TM) and enable golfers to compete on a level playing field."

The GolfServ Advantage Team Championship is an exciting, handicap competition open to all members of the more than 35 GolfServ Advantage golf clubs who have a USGA Handicap Index. Golfers play as teams in a series of weekly qualifying tournaments to win gift certificates and qualify to play in annual club championships. Club championship winners earn the chance to compete in the Grand Championship, where a grand-prize trip for two to Scotland awaits.

"GOLF.com is pleased to be able to offer the GolfServ Advantage Club Team Championship to our members – it not only provides the unique opportunity to play with other club members, but also helps to maintain the integrity of the USGA Handicap System," said Michael M. Lazerow, general manager of GOLF.com and GOLFONLINE.

The combination of the GolfServ Advantage Team Championship and the Matrix Golf Methodology(TM) creates an exciting, new competition:

  • GolfServ Advantage teams register on the Internet at GOLF.com to compete in weekly competitions. The team entry fee is $20 to register to play 18 holes, and a team may register to play as many rounds as they like in the same weekly competition.
  • Immediately following the round, team captains post player scores, indicating the name of the golf course and the tee box.
  • Players’ gross scores are posted routinely to maintain a player’s USGA Handicap Index.
  • Matrix Scores(TM) that are in contention will appear on the GolfServ Advantage club’s Leaderboard and may appear on the National Leaderboard. Matrix Scores(TM) are rounded to three decimal places to virtually eliminate ties.
  • The winners of the Grand Championship will receive a trip for two to Scotland, including five days of golf at Scotland’s finest courses, including British Open venues such as the Old Course of St. Andrews and Carnoustie.
