GLADSTONE, N.J. (June 6, 2006) – She’s on fire. Well, en fuego.
Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa has undoubtedly enjoyed the hottest stretch of the 2006 season, success she’ll look to continue at the upcoming HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship, July 6-9 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club. The $2 million purse awards the winner $500,000, the second-largest winner’s share for a non-major championship.
The season’s ADT Official Money list leader and No. 2 player by the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings has put together an astounding six-event stretch, during which she has either won or finished second every time she’s played. The streak began with her playoff loss to Karrie Webb at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in early April and ending with her win at the Sybase Classic mid-May.
In between, the 24-year-old former University of Arizona standout won the LPGA Takefuji Classic April 15, tied for second at the Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open April 30, the Franklin American Mortgage Championship one week later and the Michelob ULTRA Open one week after that. Thus far she has earned more than $1 million for the third consecutive year and leads the money list by $164,778 over Karrie Webb.
