WINTER GARDEN, Fla. (June 6, 2006) – Since opening in 1999, Orange County National has been recognized annually as a 4 _ star property by Golf Digest. To keep this excellent rating, Orange County National continually works on improvements to the facility while providing guests with a first-class experience. OCN’s latest initiatives include the renovation of their 168 bunkers and the addition of Callaway rental clubs and practice balls.
The bunker renovation project began last fall and will be completed by August 2006. Collectively the Panther Lake and Crooked Cat courses have 168 bunkers. All of the bunkers will have new tournament grade spec white sand, which allows for set-up to be consistently soft with a firm base. All the bunker edges will be re-cut and the faces and noses of the bunkers will be re-sodded as needed. New beach bunkers are also being added to holes 9, 17 and 18 on Panther Lake enhancing both the visual and strategic enjoyment of these holes.
"We are constantly making improvements to both courses to provide our guests with championship golf, along with an overall first-class experience," stated Bruce Gerlander, general manger, OCN. "Last year we added 1300 trees to better define the fairway corridors and provide better sight lines. The feedback on these changes has been very positive and we believe our guests will also be pleased with the bunker renovation project once completed."
In addition to course improvements, traveling golfers who leave their clubs at home will be able to enjoy OCN’s new rental clubs featuring the new Callaway Big Bertha irons, X Tour woods and Odyssey putter. Included in the rental set is a complementary logoed valuables pouch that can be kept as a souvenir and six Callaway golf balls. Also, golfers can warm up on the range prior to playing with Callaway Big Bertha practice balls. The multi-layer golf ball gives golfers a consistent feel on the range and around the practice greens resulting in better feedback on each shot.
"Our practice facility is one of the best in the country and we feel it is important for golfers to practice the way they play with high quality performance golf balls," continued Gerlander.
