(June 8, 2006) – The return of The Open to Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake after a break of almost 40 years has resulted in an entry of 2428 players. The entry last year at St Andrews was 2499.
The entry includes 96 players exempt from Regional Qualifying, the two IFQ’s still to be played and Local Final Qualifying. They could be joined by a further 18 from the following categories.
The remaining places will be filled by qualifiers from International Final Qualifying (Europe), International Final Qualifying (America) and Local Final Qualifying at Conwy (Caernarvonshire), Formby, Wallasey and West Lancashire bringing the total field to 156 competitors.
Regional Qualifying at 16 courses will be played on Wednesday 5 July, leading to Local Final Qualifying on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 July.
