Nickent Golf, already the winningest hybrid on the 2006 PGA and Nationwide Tours going into the weekend, won again Sunday for Nickent’s third win in the last six Nationwide Tour events!
The victory came at the LaSalle Bank Open, the largest purse event on the Nationwide Tour. Many players call this week’s tournament one of the Nationwide Tour’s "Major Championships." In addition to the largest payout, the Chicago event also attracts huge crowds and has difficult playing conditions that allowed only five players to break par.
"This tournament just keeps getting better and better," said the champion. "I definitely feel like it is one of our major championships and that makes the victory even sweeter."
Nickent’s 3DX family of hybrids have been the # 1 hybrid on the Nationwide Tour for 8 straight events, especially impressive given the fact that several manufacturers have started a "hybrid war" against Nickent to try and curb their success. This week, Nickent had 37 hybrids in play to earn the # 1 ranking.
"I am proud of what we have accomplished on the Nationwide Tour this year and we are just getting started," said Nickent CEO Michael Lee. "To be the # 1 hybrid and be a part of winning the biggest event on the Nationwide Tour is like having your cake and eating it too. We love the # 1 hybrid ranking, but winning is what it is all about. We have won more than any other hybrid manufacturer on the PGA and Nationwide Tours, which sends a strong message to all potential players that says this is where you need to be."
The Nationwide Tour’s top winning check of $135,000, moved the winner from No. 25 to No. 3 on the money list with total earnings of $202,804. The winner virtually guaranteed safe passage to the PGA Tour next year, and he will take his hot hand to Winged Foot for the U.S. Open this week after qualifying with another recent Nickent winner in Atlanta. He will then head back to Chicago for the Cialis Western Open – an invitation he received for winning the LaSalle Bank Open.
"I’ll be amped up from this victory while I’m going to New York for the U.S. Open," said the Nickent user. "The U.S. Open is such a great event. It will be a great test of golf and I feel like this week has prepared me for the challenge."
