ORLANDO, FL – Eagle Creek Golf Club in south Orlando was recently rated 4 and 1/2 stars by Golf Digest in the national magazine’s Places To Play program, the highest rating given to any course in Florida. Eagle Creek was one of only 52 courses in the entire state to receive the highest rating by Golf Digest.
The ratings are determined by some 20,000 Golf Digest readers, who fill out course ballots sharing their opinions and experiences on more than 6,500 courses in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Additionally, the Golf Digest readers ranked Eagle Creek among the very best in "consistently excelling in the area of customer service."
"This is quite a honor that we are very proud of," said Eagle Creek general Manager Gary Piotrowski. "It means so much to have the actual customers paying such a high compliment. It has been our goal from day one to provide a complete, first-class golf experience by providing outstanding service and a great golf course. This confirms that we are on the right track."
The reader comment on the program’s web site reflects the total experience aspect of a round of golf at Eagle Creek: "From the nice practice facility to the great clubhouse and food, this is a beautiful place with a great design and wonderful staff."
ABOUT EAGLE CREEK
Located just minutes from Orlando International Airport, Eagle Creek proved to be a favorite among visiting golfers as their "getaway round," thus the slogan "Save The Best ‘Til Last" was the theme of one Eagle Creek advertising campaign.
Eagle Creek Golf Club opened to rave reviews in 2004 as a course with a number of firsts. The facility features the only-par-73 layout in Central Florida, including a fifth par five, which provides an exciting risk/reward finishing hole. Eagle Creek is the first course in Florida to have the durable and smooth Mini Verde grass in its greens, and was the first in Central Florida to provide the smooth ride of the deluxe Precedent Golf Cars from Club Car.
One other unique aspect: There isn’t another clubhouse in Central Florida quite like Eagle Creek’s, a vintage New England manor in appearance overlooking the 18th hole. It features a 120-seat restaurant, a banquet room that accommodates 50 people, men and women’s locker rooms and a fully stocked pro shop.
Eagle Creek Golf Club gained a reputation as an outstanding golf course from the outset. Travel and Leisure magazine tabbed Eagle Creek as one of the top 10 new courses in Florida this decade; the par-5 18th has been named among the best finishing holes in Florida; The Grille Room was named by Orlando magazine as one of the top 10 19th Holes in the region.
ABOUT PLACES TO PLAY
Places to Play provides the most comprehensive information on public-access golf courses in North America. Golf Digest readers reviewed thousands of courses they played over the previous year and rated them using a five-point scale for five separate criteria: the overall golf experience, the value for the money, the standard of service at the facility, the overall conditioning of the course, and the normal pace of play for an 18-hole round of golf. In addition, readers were invited to write comments on their experiences at each of the courses they rated — both the good and the bad.
A team of 8 editors reviewed every comment — great care was taken to use comments that were fair, accurate and representative of the sample. Another team contacted all 6,500-plus courses by mail, fax or phone to get their latest, up-to-date information, such as their name, address, green fee and walking policy.
Reader star ratings were averaged, then compiled on a bell curve to reflect a course’s relative strength. The top 200 courses in the Value, Service, Conditioning, and Pace of Play categories have received special designations in this book for their outstanding achievement.
