The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, the world’s largest single-site golf tournament, is a 72-hole tournament played on 66 Myrtle Beach area golf courses each August. Participants compete for the right to be crowned World Amateur Golf Champion and to win some of the more than $500,000 in prizes given away at the tournament. Players are flighted according to their handicap, age, and gender, and at the conclusion of the 72-holes, flight winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
Each evening after tournament play, participants and their guests attend the "World’s Largest 19th Hole" which includes an extensive golf exposition, equipment demos, entertainment, open bars, prize drawings and dinner buffet featuring 15 of Myrtle Beach’s best restaurants. Returning to the 19th Hole again in 2006 is the 40,000 square foot PGA TOUR Superstore interactive experience featuring merchandise from leading golf equipment and apparel manufacturers; clinics from leading instructors, as well as game improvement areas, skill contests and games for participants and guests.
Returning to the tournament in 2006 is the Centex Homes "Villa Quest" where one talented golfer will walk away with the keys to a brand-new $150,000 Myrtle Beach villa in one of Centex Homes’ premier Grand Strand communities, Berkshire Forest. Valued at approximately $150,000, the villa will be awarded to the World Am golfer who sinks a 10-foot putt Thursday night at the 19th Hole. All golfers are eligible to win the villa and the event begins Tuesday with a closest-to-the pin contest in each flight.
New in 2006 is the United States Qualifier of the International Pairs Championship where World Am contestants compete as a twosome for the opportunity to win an all-expense paid trip to St. Andrews to represent the United States in the 2007 International Pairs World Finals.
