Geoff Ogilvy Earns First Career Major in U.S. Open Championship Victory

Carlsbad, CA (June 19, 2006) – In the ultimate test of golfing skill and will, Cobra Staff professional Geoff Ogilvy topped a world-class field at Winged Foot to capture the 106th U.S. Open Championship for his second victory of the season and first career major.

His winning performance of 5-over included a combination of distance, accuracy, patience and trust in his King Cobra X/Speed driver (9.5), King Cobra Forged MB irons (3-9) and King Cobra Forged CB 2-iron. Consistency was another key to Ogilvy’s success, as he finished among the Top 21 in Driving Distance (6th/306.4), Greens in Regulation (T13/58.3) and Driving Accuracy (T21/57.1).

The victory vaulted Ogilvy to World No. 8 for the first time in his career, up from World No. 50 at the start of the season.

Ogilvy proved his steely determination and coolness under pressure en route to his victory at the WGC-Accenture Match Play in February, winning six matches against higher-ranked opponents, four of which went into extra holes.

Ogilvy’s playing partner in the next-to-last group in the final round of the 2006 U.S. Open Championship was fellow Cobra Staff Professional Ian Poulter. Like Ogilvy, Poulter placed his trust in the King Cobra X/Speed (8.5) driver, as well as a King Cobra X/Speed fairway metal (13.0) and King Cobra Forged MB irons (3-P). Poulter finished T12, including T8 in Greens in Regulation.
