Furyk, Daly And DiMarco Also Scheduled To Play At Warwick Hills
GRAND BLANC, Mich., June 20 – 2006 U.S. Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy is among the early commitments to play in the 2006 Buick Open, scheduled for the week of July 31-Aug. 6 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc.
2003 Buick Open champion Jim Furyk, John Daly and Chris DiMarco are also scheduled to play in this year’s Buick Open.
"We are very excited that these outstanding golfers have decided to return to Grand Blanc to play in the 2006 Buick Open," said Larry Peck, Buick golf marketing manager. "This is only the beginning of what we think will be another outstanding field at Warwick Hills."
Ogilvy, 29, recently captured the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. He is currently second to Phil Mickelson on the PGA Tour’s 2006 money list with $3,919,394. Ogilvy, who turned pro in 1998, now has four career PGA Tour victories, including the 2006 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Carlsbad, Calif. This will be his fifth consecutive appearance at the Buick Open. His best finish at Warwick Hills was a tie for second place in 2003.
Furyk, 36, won both the Buick Open and the U.S. Open in 2003. He has 11 career wins and is in the top-10 on the PGA Tour’s career money list with more than $27 million. Furyk, who will be playing in his 11th Buick Open, has finished in the top-10 five consecutive times. He is third on the Buick Open’s all-time money list with $1,544,444.
Daly, 40, will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the Buick Open and sixth overall. His best finish was in 2004 when he came in second to Vijay Singh. He has five career PGA Tour wins, including the 2004 Buick Invitational.
DiMarco, 37, has three career PGA Tour victories including the 2001 Buick Challenge in Pine Mountain, Ga. He will be making his 9th consecutive appearance at Warwick Hills and 11th overall. DiMarco, who has two second place finishes at the Buick Open (2001 and 2003), is fifth on the Buick Open’s all-time money list with $748,619.
Former Buick Open champions Woody Austin (1995) and Scott Verplank (1988) are also scheduled to be in the field.
The 2006 Buick Open field will compete for a record $4.8 million purse, including the $864,000 first prize and the keys to a 2007 Buick Lucerne.
Former Buick Open Champion Tiger Woods ((2002) announced on June 5 that he is scheduled to play in the 2006 Buick Open. Vijay Singh said that he will go for a record third consecutive Buick Open title.
