PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, June 20, 2006 Through tournaments and other fundraising activities, the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) contributes over $500,000 annually to a wide range of charitable causes. A first time tally of EWGA chapter fundraising and individual donations through the EWGA Foundation revealed that in 2005 the association’s nationwide charitable contributions topped the half-million dollar mark.
Some of the numerous community and national charities benefiting from these efforts include LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, Rally for the Cure, Red Cross Katrina Relief, Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Annual charity events such as the Marilynn Smith Dallas EWGA Golf Classic, the Naples Florida EWGA Ladies Pro-Am, the Seattle EWGA Rally for the Cure and the Eastern Shore MD EWGA Pink Ribbon Classic as well as dozens of other EWGA fundraisers and donations demonstrate the association’s dedication to helping others through golf.
The EWGA Foundation will host its 4th annual "EWGA at the U.S. Women’s Open" presented by CGI on June 29 and 30 in conjunction with the U.S. Women’s Open Championship at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. Proceeds will benefit LPGA-USGA Girls Golf.
"We’ve always known that as a volunteer based organization, EWGA members are inclined to give of themselves to their communities and to meaningful causes," says Pam Swensen, EWGA chief executive officer. "To see our collective efforts top half a million dollars in philanthropic contributions is very inspiring. This confirms what I’ve always believed – that EWGA changes people’s lives through women making a difference."
Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 80,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to providing opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. There are currently 120 chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
EWGA chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers. A welcoming environment, golf education and player development, and organized play programs are part of the many benefits of EWGA membership.
Celebrating its 15th Anniversary in 2006, the EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and membership, visit www.ewga.com.
