ORLANDO, FL – The owners at Eagle Creek Golf Club made a last-minute decision to change their finishing hole from a beautiful par 4 to a dramatic par 5. Their goal? Create end-of-round excitement, sending golfers home with something special to talk about.
Mission accomplished.
Eagle Creek’s risk-reward closing hole had an immediate impact, making Eagle Creek the region’s only par 73 layout. And it drew immediate response from players, often becoming the topic of choice in the post-round Grill Room discussions. Florida Golf Central Magazine named it one of Central Florida’s very best finishing holes.
And now Golf Life Orlando Magazine, sister publication to Golfweek, has named Eagle Creek’s 18th hole among "The Best 18 Holes In Orlando." The list appears in the summer issue of the Golf Life Orlando magazine.
Golfers generally favor par 5’s, and none is more enjoyable than the terrific finishing hole. The 483-yard par 5 offers golfers a chance to finish in glory, reaching the green in two. But the sloping putting surface is bordered in front and to the right by water, requiring extreme accuracy on the approach.
Says Golf Life, "One of the better finishing holes in the Orlando area, this par 5 offers players several options from tee to green. The tee shot should be left of center and carry over fairway cross-bunkers on the left. The second shot is about a 175-yard layup, leaving a short approach over water to the peninsula green. The most interesting aspect about this hole is the risk-reward, daring long hitters to go for the green in two. Combined with unique features such as cross bunkering, a beach bunker and a Scottish revetted bunker, the 18th hole has all the ingredients for a memorable and challenging final hole."
ABOUT EAGLE CREEK
Located just minutes from Orlando International Airport, Eagle Creek has proven to be a popular choice among visiting golfers as their "getaway round," and a favorite among the locals.
Eagle Creek is rated 4 and 1/2 stars by Golf Digest in the national magazine’s Places To Play program, the highest rating given to any course in Florida. Eagle Creek was one of only 52 courses in the entire state to receive the highest rating by Golf Digest. Additionally, the Golf Digest readers ranked Eagle Creek among the very best in "consistently excelling in the area of customer service."
Eagle Creek opened to rave reviews in 2004 as a course with a number of firsts. Along with being the only par-73 layout in Central Florida, Eagle Creek is the first course in Florida to have the durable and smooth Mini Verde grass in its greens, and was the first in Central Florida to provide the smooth ride of the deluxe Precedent Golf Cars from Club Car.
One other unique aspect: There isn’t another clubhouse in Central Florida quite like Eagle Creek’s, a vintage New England manor in appearance overlooking the 18th hole. It features a 120-seat restaurant, a banquet room that accommodates 50 people, men and women’s locker rooms and a fully stocked pro shop.
Eagle Creek Golf Club gained a reputation as an outstanding golf course from the outset. Travel and Leisure magazine tabbed Eagle Creek as one of the top 10 new courses in Florida this decade; the par-5 18th has been named among the best finishing holes in Florida; The Grille Room was named by Orlando magazine as one of the top 10 19th Holes in the region.
