VERONA, N.Y. – A field of 312 PGA Professionals, representing 44 states, will contest for a record purse of $550,000 this weekend in the 39th PGA Professional National Championship, being contested Thursday through Sunday, at Turning Stone Resort & Casino.
The Central New York resort is the first facility in New York state to host the showcase event for PGA Professionals that originated in 1968.
The National Championship purse represents a $50,000 increase from a year ago, and features a first-place prize of $75,000, up from $67,000 in 2005, along with the Walter Hagen Cup.
The 20 low scorers following Sunday’s final round will earn a berth in the 88th PGA Championship, Aug. 17-20, at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club.
The National Championship field was assembled from 41 Section PGA Professional Championships conducted in 2005. The Section championships and the National Championship offer a combined purse of more than $1.3 million.
The PGA Professional National Championship is presented by Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra; Buick and Club Car. The Greg Norman Collection is the Official Golf Apparel of the championship. The Golf Channel is the exclusive media partner and the PGA Tour is a contributing partner.
