LEMONT, IL (Friday, June 23) – The PGA TOUR’s promising young stars continue to target the 2006 Cialis Western Open as a must stop on their climb toward the top of the World Golf Ranking. On Thursday, Adam Scott and Camilo Villegas added their names to the list of young guns out to prove themselves in the 103rd Cialis Western Open, set for July 3-9 at Cog Hill Golf Club in Lemont.
Scott, 25, is sixth in the World Ranking, just one spot behind Cialis Western Open defending champion Jim Furyk, who will be at Cog Hill seeking to successfully defend his title. Villegas, 24, has moved into the top 100 in the World Ranking at No. 100 in just his first year on the PGA TOUR. He earned his exempt status on the 2006 PGA TOUR by finishing 13th in the 2005 Nationwide Tour standings.
"We’re pleased that both Adam and Camilo are joining our field. They are dynamic, young players with a wealth of talent," said John Kaczkowski, tournament director. "Their presence definitely will add to the excitement of this year’s championship."
Scott has three career victories on the PGA TOUR, including a win at the 2004 Players Championship. This year, he tied for second at the Nissan Open and Barclays Classic, finished third at the Wachovia Championship, tied for third at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, and placed fourth at The Memorial. With $2,498,292 in earnings in 2006, he ranks sixth on the current money list, just in front of Tiger Woods, who also is expected to play in this year’s Cialis Western Open.
Villegas ranks 26th on the current money list with $1,366,595 in earnings. He tied for second at the FBR Open and the Ford Championship and tied for third at the 2006 Players Championship. Playing on a sponsor’s exemption in the 2005 Cialis Western Open, Villegas tied for 40th.
In addition to top-ranked Tiger Woods and fifth-ranked Jim Furyk, the cast of PGA TOUR veterans at this year’s championship is also expected to include Phil Mickelson, No. 2 in the World Ranking, and Vijay Singh, No 3.
