Ames Also Scheduled To Play At Warwick Hills
GRAND BLANC, Mich., June 27 – 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir, a native of Ontario, Canada, has entered the field for the 2006 Buick Open, scheduled for July 31-Aug. 6 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc. It will be Weir’s first appearance in the Buick Open since 2002.
"It will be great to have Mike Weir in Grand Blanc this year," said Larry Peck, Buick Golf Marketing Manager. "He is a tremendous player and Buick Open fans will really enjoy watching him play."
Weir, 36, has seven career PGA Tour victories, including the 2003 Masters Tournament, THE TOUR Championship (2001) and the 2000 WGC-American Express Championship. Born in Sarnia, Ontario, Weir will be making his seventh appearance at the Buick Open. His top performance at Warwick Hills is a tie for 43rd place. Weir has five top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour this year, including a tie for sixth at the U.S. Open.
Stephen Ames also announced that he will play in the 2006 Buick Open.
Ames, 42, turned professional in 1987. He won THE PLAYERS Championship this year, earning his second career victory. Ames will be making his seventh appearance at the Buick Open. His best performance at Warwick Hills was a tie for 14th in 2001.
Previous 2006 Buick Open commitments include Jim Furyk, John Daly, Chris DiMarco, Woody Austin and Scott Verplank.
The 2006 Buick Open field will compete for a record $4.8 million purse, including the $864,000 first prize and the keys to a 2007 Buick Lucerne.
Former Buick Open Champion Tiger Woods ((2002) announced on June 5 that he is scheduled to play in the 2006 Buick Open. Vijay Singh has verbally committed to going for a record third consecutive Buick Open title.
