Participating Facilities Nationwide Can Be Found at www.playgolfamerica.com
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The PGA of America has teamed with the National Golf Course Owners Association to promote Take Your Daughter to the Course Week which will be held July 10-16 at more than 700 facilities nationwide. Take Your Daughter to the Course Week, one of many Play Golf America programs, is designed to introduce junior girls to the game and encourage family interaction on the course. This is the seventh year for the program, but first under the Play Golf America umbrella.
Participating golf courses nationwide will offer a free clinic for young ladies throughout the week and will also offer complimentary green fees to a young lady accompanied by a paying adult. Some courses will conduct special events such as fashion shows and tournaments to enhance the experience for the participants. Participating courses can be found at www.playgolfamerica.com.
More than 32,000 junior girls participated in the event last summer and coordinators are expecting record numbers this year. Brad Faxon, who holds eight PGA tour titles and was the recipient of the 2005 Payne Stewart Award, is the national spokesperson for this year’s program.
"As a PGA TOUR player and father of four daughters, I understand the importance of attracting more girls to the game," Faxon said. "Take Your Daughter to the Course Week is a great way for golfers to get involved in player development and to share their favorite sport with their favorite girls."
The PGA of America is building on the success of its existing Play Golf America programs such as PGA Free Lesson Month, American Express Women’s Golf Week, and Play Golf America Days and adding new ones to continue growing the game of golf, including Free Fitting & Trade Up Month and the National Golf Course Owners Association’s Take Your Daughter to the Course Week.
Play Golf America, designed to increase participation among new and occasional adult golfers, was developed by The PGA of America, with the support of Allied Associations including: the LPGA, National Golf Course Owners Association, PGA Tour, USGA and others involved in the annual Golf 20/20 Conference. The program utilizes the www.playgolfamerica.com Web site to serve as a link for consumers to access fun, affordable and informative programs in their area.
Celebrating its 90th anniversary, The PGA of America was founded in 1916, and is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf, while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The Association is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf.
