Another weekend of crowning moments for the Yes! Golf family album, as the C-Groove putters feature joint second in the Johnnie Walker Classic and help deliver another overall win at Royal St Georges at the British Amateur Championships.
At Gleneagles, Andrew Marshall tied for second place with Soren Hansen of Denmark, but the undoubted highlight of the Englishman’s final round of 69 was an eagle three at the 9th with a holed putt of a whopping 40 feet – courtesy of the new centre-shafted Carolyne. It yielded the biggest purse in his 11-year professional career.
At Royal St Georges, meanwhile, France’s leading amateur 20 year-old Julien Guerrier from La Rochelle won out a very closely contested 18 holes with Englishman Adam Gee.
Once again, the C-Groove technology was much more than just another club in the bag, as Guerrier gave himself two unanswerably decisive holes with a 25 eagle putt on the 550-yard 14th and a final 15-foot on the 18th, to break the deadlock in a neck-and-neck contest with the 23 year-old from Leatherhead.
"We’re absolutely over the moon with the weekend’s results," said Peter Allison from Yes! Golf UK. "There’s no question that every time we see our putters doing well on the Tour it’s a great boost for the Yes! Golf organization worldwide, but to find players on the high amateur levels and in places like the Challenge Tour is very, very special.
"I think it’s because most of us ordinary club golfers feel a long way from the standard of the Tour players, because they’re so focused and so consistently brilliant. Amateur champions, though, are closer to where most of us feel are and subconsciously we feel that kind of play is more attainable for us.
"Alwaysâ?¦ after a win like that at Royal St George’s, we see a peak in orders form club pro shops. If it goes true to form, this mid-summer period will go nuts for Yes! Golf."
The C-Groove putter has concentric grooves machined into its face at two exacting angles. When the apex of the grooves strikes a golf ball, says the manufacturer, the groves impart a force that begins the roll earlier on in the strike than is usual with a smooth-faced putter. This lifts the ball out of its resting place while markedly ‘calming’ the launch and spin characteristics of the ball almost immediately. This rolling action
starting so early in the roll of the ball toward the cup reduces skid and deviation, and this combination makes for consistently more accurate putting.
In independent testing, it was shown that the C-Groove putter reduced skid and increased forward rotation on the golf ball in the initial stages of the putt. This early rotation is crucial, in light of the fact that missed putts on the putting green are due primarily to skidding, back-spinning and even bouncing as a result of putter-face impact.
