St. Augustine, Fla. (June 27, 2006) – World Golf Village’s golf courses, Slammer & Squire and King & Bear, will host "Take Your Kids to the Course Week" Monday, July 10 through Sunday, July 16. The courses also will host a competition for juniors who participate in the week’s activities giving them the opportunity to become a ‘Golf Idol.’
"Take Your Kids to the Course Week" allows juniors through age 17 the opportunity to play for free on Slammer & Squire and King & Bear throughout the week especially dedicated to junior golfers. The week will culminate Saturday, July 15 with a complimentary golf clinic at 10 a.m., followed by a noon luncheon and a second complimentary golf clinic at 1 p.m., all held at Slammer & Squire.
"We are committed to offering programs that help expose the game of golf to new audiences, especially juniors," said Cathy Harbin, General Manager of the Slammer & Squire and King & Bear. "We look forward to seeing the juniors play that week and participating in our ‘Golf Idol’ search."
"As the home of the World Golf Hall of Fame, World Golf Village is a fitting location for juniors to learn the game of golf and enjoy play on our championship courses," said Jack Peter, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the World Golf Hall of Fame. "We look forward to hosting many juniors throughout the week again this year."
A random drawing of "Take Your Kids to the Course Week" participants will determine finalists for the ‘Golf Idol’ competition, which will consist of five boys and five girls. The finalists will win a group clinic from former LPGA Tour player Gina Hull, who is the Director of Instruction at King & Bear and Slammer & Squire at World Golf Village. Hull will select one winning boy and girl from the clinic based upon enthusiasm, ability to learn and attitude towards the game. The winning boy and girl will receive six months of bi-weekly lessons from Hull, and also will be given unlimited access to the extensive practice facilities at both the Slammer & Squire and King & Bear during that time.
"I remember seeing Annika Sorenstam at the LPGA Tour Qualifying School and you could see the desire in her eyes even back then," commented Hull. "That is what I will be looking for in these clinics, and I hope to find and help a future star of the game."
Throughout July and August, Slammer & Squire and King & Bear also will give juniors the opportunity to play complimentary golf on either course Sunday through Thursday, when accompanied by a paying adult.
