Lately, there seems to be two key elements to winning on the Nationwide Tour. First, you must be entered in the event. Second, it seems you should have a Nickent 3DX hybrid in your bag.
Nickent won for the 3rd event in a row, the 4th time in 5 events and the 5th time in 14 events on the season. Nickent also had the # 1 most amount of hybrids in play for the 10th straight event on the Nationwide Tour.
Nickent was in the bag of the winner of the Chattanooga Classic Sunday with a 3DX DC Ironwood powered with an Aldila VS Proto shaft. The winner was an unlikely candidate for the victory, but a course record 61 on Sunday put him at 26-under-par and into a playoff. It was the first ever professional event for the 22-year-old Monday qualifier, a recent graduate of Wake Forest University.
He is only the 11th player in Tour history to win in his first career start, and only the fourth to do so in the past 10 years. The player earned $85,500 and jumped to No. 22 on the official Nationwide Tour money list. He also gained full status on the Tour for the rest of the 2006 and 2007 season.
"I didn’t feel out of place at all this week," said the Chattanooga champ. "I Monday qualified and it’s easy to say but I felt like I belong out here. None of this has hit me yet. The first thing is you come out here and don’t have status and you want to finish in the top-25 so you can play next week. In my mind I was thinking that I have just as good a chance as anyone else in the field to win."
Nickent Golf is setting milestones on the Nationwide Tour this year with 3 wins in a row and 4 wins in the last 5 events. Eleven players in the Top 30 on the money list play Nickent 3DX DC hybrids, and Nickent is # 1 in victories, # 1 in Top 10 finishes and # 1 for overall hybrids in play on the 2006 Tour.
"We just can’t stop winning," said Nickent CEO Michael Lee. "We now have 6 wins on the PGA Tours since April 30th. It’s amazing really. No other hybrid has this many wins on the tours combined this year. One, we make a great product. Two, we are getting a little lucky. But luck is necessary when you are fighting the largest manufacturers for exposure in the fastest growing category in golf."
