Golf Illustrated selects F2 Wedge for Baggy Award in Outstanding Achievement

July 6, 2006

DENVER, Colo. – Golf Illustrated has announced the winners of the 2006 Baggy Awards and selected the F2 wedge for the Outstanding Achievement or Great Performer Bag category.

This is the second year for the Baggy Awards, which are awarded to the best new equipment covered by Golf Illustrated over the past year as judged by their readers, editors, and GolfTest USA testers.

For the 2006 Baggy Awards, equipment was evaluated in four categories (bags) Readers’ Choice, GolfTest USA, Editors’ Choice and Outstanding Achievement. Each bag consists of a driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons, wedge, putter, ball and bag.

"Golf Illustrated’s editors selected the F2 wedges for a Baggy Award in the Outstanding Achievement Bag category for two reasons," explained Laurie Lee Dovey, equipment editor of Golf Illustrated. "The face forward technology incorporated into the design works. The clubs perform as promised. In addition, F2 is a new company without the marketing clout of the major golf brands. F2 has introduced viable products to market and we want Golf Illustrated readers to know about them."

Face Forward technology places the leading edge of the blade ahead of the hosel. This allows golfers to keep their hands in proper position ahead of the club throughout the shot eliminating shanks and a variety of miss-hit chips.

"Awards in the Outstanding Achievement Bag were given to those golf products that did not qualify in the other three categories but were too important, as judged by our editors, from a technology, performance or playability standpoint that they deserved an award for their outstanding achievement, said Jason Sowards, Golf Illustrated Editor.

"Readers’ choices were based on results from an online survey sent to a random sample of 1,000 Golf Illustrated readers, with participants asked to vote for the best new equipment of 2006. The GolfTest USA selections were determined by independent and unbiased testing of each golf product by GolfTest USA testers, with ratings based on how they performed with the equipment. For the Editors’ Choice Bag, Golf Illustrated editors evaluated all the golf equipment covered in the magazine over the past year and selected those products that they believe would best fit our readers," said Sowards.

The Baggy Award recipients will be highlighted in the September issue of Golf Illustrated.

F2 wedges are now available in 52, 56, 58 and 60-degree models. Look for F2 irons in late summer.
