July 7, 2006

The Spaniard is the ninth player from the top 20 in the world rankings who signed up for the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship

Alveslohe, 5th July 2006: Three weeks prior to the start of the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe golfing fans can look forward to the start of yet another top player: the number nine in the world rankings, Sergio Garcia, who last appeared at the championship course of the Gut Kaden Golf und Land Club in 2000, has given his commitment to the tournament organisers and promoters today. The Spanish spectators’ darling is happy to return to Germany: "It feels great to take part in the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe again. It’s one of the best tournaments in Europe and this year they expect a high-calibre contestants’ field at Gut Kaden. That’s exactly what tempts me to come – to assess my skills against some of the finest golfers in the world!"

The most star-studded tournament of the running year will be held on the European continent in front of the gates of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg from July 27th to 30th, 2006. Nine players from the current top 20 in the world rankings have already confirmed their participation in the tournament. Among them are the number four in the world rankings, Retief Goosen; the leader of the European Order of Merit, David Howell; the Ryder Cup players, Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke and Luke Donald as well as Padraig Harrington – the tournament winner in 2003. On top, Tim Clark, the runner-up at this year’s US Masters, and the Swedish shooting star of the year, Henrik Stenson, will also be there.

The excellent competitors’ field is rounded off by former major winners, Bernhard Langer, John Daly, Michael Campbell, Todd Hammilton and Paul Lawrie. The Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe with a total purse of euro 3.6 million will once again vouch for "The Best of Golf" this year!
