GRAND BLANC, Mich., July 6, 2006 – 1998 Buick Open Champion Billy Mayfair, Jeff Sluman and Lee Janzen are the latest players to commit to the 2006 Buick Open, scheduled for July 31-Aug. 6 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc. Together, the three have played in a total of 45 Buick Opens.
"We look forward to having three solid professionals like Billy, Jeff and Lee in the field," said Larry Peck, Buick Golf Marketing Manager. "They have had a great deal of success on the PGA Tour and golf fans always enjoy watching them play."
Mayfair, who will turn 40 on the last day of the 2006 Buick Open (Aug. 6), will be playing at Warwick Hills for the 16th time. He won the 1998 Buick Open by two strokes over Scott Verplank (1988 Buick Open champion). Mayfair has five career PGA Tour victories, including THE TOUR Championship in 1995.
Sluman, 48, will be playing in his 12th consecutive Buick Open and 22nd overall. His best finish at Warwick Hills was a tied for third place in 1995. Sluman has six career PGA Tour wins and is 21st on the PGA Tour’s career money list with more than 17 million dollars.
Janzen, 41, has eight PGA Tour wins including two U.S. Open victories (1993 and 1998). This will be his 10th appearance at the Buick Open.
Previous 2006 Buick Open commitments include Jim Furyk, John Daly, Chris DiMarco, Woody Austin, Scott Verplank, Mike Weir and Stephen Ames.
Former Buick Open Champion Tiger Woods (2002) announced on June 5 that he is scheduled to play in the 2006 Buick Open. Vijay Singh has verbally committed to going for a record third straight Buick Open title.
The 2006 Buick Open field will compete for a record $4.8 million purse, including the $864,000 first prize and the keys to a 2007 Buick Lucerne.
