Event Offers Over $20,000 in Prizes for Amateur Golfers of All Ages
St. Augustine, Fla. (June 06, 2006) – The World Golf Hall of Fame’s third-annual First Coast Putting Championship will begin Saturday, July 15 and continue through the last few weekends in July at the World Golf Hall of Fame Putting Course at World Golf Village and will offer amateur golfers the opportunity to test their putting skills against other amateur golfers from Northeast Florida.
The Putting Championship will allow participants the chance to win more than $20,000 in prizes, including a first place prize of Cleveland clubs (complete set) and golf bag, a two-day, two-night stay at Coconut Point Resort & Spa, one-week passes for the 2007 THE PLAYERS Championship, golf twosomes for one year at World Golf Village and a PGA TOUR STOP gift certificate. Second, third and fourth place prizes also will be awarded and will include golf bags, PGA TOUR Spa Laterra gift certificates, PGA TOUR STOP gift certificates and more. The top 16 finalists will take home a putter courtesy of Cleveland Golf.
"The World Golf Hall of Fame Putting Championship allows area amateurs to enjoy a fun competition, not only for great prizes, but for the title of the 2006 Hall of Fame Putting Champion," said Jack Peter, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the World Golf Hall of Fame. "Our 18-hole natural grass putting course, which sits in the shadow of the Hall of Fame, makes for a perfect venue and we look forward to hosting many participants again this year."
Entry fee for the putting tournament is $35. All participants will receive one practice round on the putting course, an exclusive tournament gift bag, lunch at Fairways Café at the World Golf Hall of Fame the day of their qualifying round, a chance to win $10,000 at the 150-yard Challenge Hole and complimentary admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The World Golf Hall of Fame Putting Course is an 18-hole natural FloraDwarf bermudagrass course designed to USGA specifications.
A complete schedule for the tournament is as follows:
· Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Qualifying rounds begin
· Sunday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Qualifying rounds continue
· Saturday, July 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Qualifying rounds continue
· Sunday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Qualifying rounds continue
· Saturday, July 29, 10 a.m.: Championship Round
