(Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) — The winner of the Ford Senior Players Championship and the Nationwide Tour’s leading money winner will be eligible to play in THE PLAYERS Championship beginning in 2007. The change was approved recently by the PGA TOUR Policy Board.
The Ford Senior Players Championship winner will be an addition to the 144-man PLAYERS Championship field. The Nationwide Tour money leader will be a full-time PGA TOUR member in 2007.
The PLAYERS Championship moves to a new date in 2007, May 7-13. A refurbished TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course will once again host the tournament, which annually features the strongest field of any in the world.
The addition of the Ford Senior Players Championship winner to THE PLAYERS field is consistent with the current practice of the USGA, PGA of America and R&A whereby champions of the U.S. Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship and Senior British Open are extended invitations to compete in the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and British Open, respectively.
The Ford Senior Players Championship begins this Thursday at the TPC Michigan in Dearborn, MI.
Tripp Isenhour currently leads the Nationwide Tour money list with $264,834. He retains a $48,520 margin over Jason Dufner.
