Eighteen-Year-Old Australian is Competing as a Pro for the First Time at the John Deere Classic
CARLSBAD, Calif. (July 14, 2006) – Australian amateur golf phenom Jason Day, who this week announced his decision to turn professional, has joined the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff. At his first event as a professional, this week’s PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic, Day is playing a TaylorMade r7 460 driver, TaylorMade r7 Steel 3-wood, TaylorMade rac irons, TaylorMade rac pitching wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge, Rossa Fontana putter and TaylorMade’s new TP Red golf ball. Also, he will wear adidas Golf apparel and footwear. In addition to the John Deere, Day has accepted invitations to compete at the B.C. Open, the U.S. Bank Championship, The International and the Reno Tahoe Open.
Day’s numerous accomplishments as an amateur include winning the 2005 Queensland Junior Championship, the 2005 Victorian & South Australian Junior Masters, the 2004 and 2005 Gary Player Classic, the 2004 Callaway World Junior Championship, the 2004 Queensland Amateur Championship, the 2004 Australian Junior Championship and the 2004 New Zealand Boys Championship. He also won the Australian Junior Order of Merit and was honored as the Queensland Junior Male Amateur Golfer of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. As a teenager he broke the 34-year-old course record held by Jack Nicklaus at Royal Hobart.
