May be the Longest Running Golf Tips Show in the U.S.
FORT MYERS, Florida (Monday, July 17, 2006): Internationally renown Trick Shot Artist and Golf Instructor Mike Calbot celebrates 25 years in 2006 as "The Golf Doctor" in Southwest Florida.
For two-and-a-half decades, Calbot has been local Fort Myers, Florida, CBS-affiliate WINK-TV’s voice of golf, offering up videotaped golf tips under the banner of "The Golf Doctor." The program has run on the station every week since 1981. "The Golf Doctor" airs every Monday in the
6 p.m. newscast, reairing Tuesdays on The Morning Show. It is believed that "The Golf Doctor" may be the longest continually running television golf tips program in the United States and the world.
Calbot has earned a long and storied career in the game of golf. His career has spanned just about every segment of the golf industry. He has traveled the world as a touring professional. Calbot continues to tour the world as a trick shot artist and performer, especially in China, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France. He has worked along side many of golf’s legends Gene Sarazen, Sam Sneed, Patty Berg, Gary Player, Mickey Wright, Sandra Palmer, Nancy Lopez, Judy Rankin, Carol Mann, just to mention a few. He is the author of a 1987 golf instructional video, "Learning Golf," and is the published author of dozens of articles on golf and golf tips in many regional and national magazines.
Calbot is also a swing analyst and golf instructor to more than 6,000 people since 1988. Plus, Calbot has personally trained more than 25 men and women who are now class "A" members of the PGA and LPGA tours. Calbot also works with players on the European PGA Tour, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour.
Calbot has been instrumental in the development of Junior Golf in Southwest Florida, helping to establish several local programs for children to learn the ethics and game of golf. Some of Calbot’s previous Juniors are now active winners on the PGA and LPGA tours.
