In the month to 15 June 2006 the Golfalot Price Index, which tracks the average price of golf equipment from UK retailers, remained almost static with a 0.4% fall. Trolleys, putters and irons were the biggest gainers, both of which were due to new models appearing in the market. New premium putters from Guerin and the new Powakaddy trolleys, among others, finally hit the market. Fairways, utility clubs and wedges all fell by over 3% each with bags declining by 2.7%. This just about balanced the Golfalot Price Index for the period although feedback from retailers indicated that trading conditions were tough as competition for leisure time between golf and the World Cup had seen our great sport come off second best. However with the Open beginning and the Ryder Cup on the horizon, it is hoped that this trend will be reversed over the remainder of the golf season.
The Golfalot Price Index tracks the prices of the latest model(s) from each manufacturer are chosen as they reach the market so the models tracked always reflect pricing on what the serious golfer wants, the latest technology. Prices are taken from Golfalot.com’s market leading golf equipment price comparison service which tracks all the prices every day from every major UK golf retailer with a national pricing policy.
