GRAND BLANC, Mich., July 20 – David Toms, Paul Azinger and J.J. Henry are the latest players to enter the 2006 Buick Open field. The tournament is scheduled for July 31-Aug. 6 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc.
"With the addition of Toms, Azinger and Henry, we have three more outstanding players for Buick Open fans to watch," said Larry Peck, Buick Golf Marketing Manager. "The field continues to get better each week and we’re looking forward to another great tournament."
Toms, 39, has 12 career PGA Tour victories and is seventh on the PGA Tour’s all-time money list with more than $25 million. He has three top-10 finishes in 2006, including a victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Toms is 10th on the PGA Tour’s 2006 money list with more than $2.4. This will be his first appearance at the Buick Open since 2002 (tied for 10th) and sixth appearance overall at Warwick Hills.
Azinger, 46, has 12 career PGA Tour wins and more than $14 million in career earnings. This will be his 13th appearance at the Buick Open. His best finish at Warwick Hills was a tie for 6th in 2002.
Henry, 31, recently earned his first career PGA Tour victory with a win at the Buick Championship in Cromwell, Conn. Henry is 22nd on the 2006 money list with more than $1.6 million. This will be his fourth appearance at the Buick Open. His best finish was in 2002 when he tied for 10th place.
Previous 2006 Buick Open commitments include Jim Furyk, John Daly, Chris DiMarco, Woody Austin, Scott Verplank, Mike Weir, Stephen Ames, Billy Mayfair, Jeff Sluman, Lee Janzen, Kenny Perry, J.B. Holmes and Carlos Franco.
Former Buick Open Champion Tiger Woods (2002) announced on June 5 that he intends to play in the 2006 Buick Open. Vijay Singh has verbally committed to going for a record third consecutive Buick Open title.
The 2006 Buick Open field will compete for a record $4.8 million purse, including the $864,000 first prize and the keys to a 2007 Buick Lucerne.
