MADISON, WI – For the first time in its history, the Trans-Miss Amateur allowed the use of electronic measuring devices during their event, and Laser Link Golf was there. Each contestant was allowed the opportunity to use Laser Link Golf’s QuickShot rangefinder during the event. Company representatives were on site to dispense the rangefinders and to answer any questions. The tournament was contested at Brook Hollow Country Club, a top club in the Dallas, TX, area. The conclusion of the event came on Sunday with Robert Funk of Canyon Lake, CA, claiming the championship. He joins a list of esteemed past winners that include Jack Nicklaus, George Archer, Gary Koch, Bob Tway, and Mark Brooks.
The tournament took advantage of Decision 14-3/0.5, which allows a tournament committee to institute a Local Rule permitting the use of electronic distance measurement devices during play. The one restriction is that the devices must measure distance only. Any device measuring wind speed, wind direction, gradient, or any other factors that might affect play are not allowable under the Local Rule. The new Decision went into affect on January 1, 2006, and is currently in use by more than 50 state and local golf organizations around the country.
"We are thrilled to have such an esteemed amateur golf organization use our System during their premier event," said Dan Steiner, Vice President, Laser Link Golf. "Having a tournament with as much tradition as the Trans-Miss use our product during play shows that the golf community is accepting this new Decision, and using it to improve their tournament rounds."
