Fairhaven, MA (July 24, 2006) – Titleist topped The Open Championship golf ball count for the 27th consecutive year, as long as records have been kept, with 106 players, more than six times the nearest competitor with 17.
In fact, 10 of the top 15 finishers trusted Titleist golf balls for their success, including runner-up Chris DiMarco (Pro V1). Third-place finisher Ernie Els (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R, PT 906F prototype fairway metal, Forged 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron prototype putter) was among four full-line Titleist ambassadors in the top 15.
Titleist players following DiMarco and Els on the Open Championship leaderboard were: Angel Cabrera (7th/Pro V1x), Adam Scott (T8/Pro V1, Pro Titanium 905R driver, PT 906F2 prototype fairway metal, prototype utility wood, Forged 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron prototype putter), Andres Romero (T8/Pro V1x), Ben Crane (T11/Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, 503.H utility iron, Forged 755 prototype irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled approach, sand and lob wedges), S.K. Ho (T11/Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, Pro Trajectory 904F fairway metal, Forged 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled approach and lob wedges), Retief Goosen (T11/Pro V1x), Sean O’Hair (T11/Pro V1x) and Anthony Wall (T11/Pro V1x).
Titleist was also the overwhelming favorite in the wedge category with 109 in play, compared to 44 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was second in the driver (32), iron (29) and putter (38) categories.
The champion, just like he did at last year’s Open Championship and for each of his 11 major titles, relied upon a Scotty Cameron by Titleist putter for his success. The Open Championship win advances Titleist’s victory count in the putter category on the 2006 PGA Tour to 15, more than three times the nearest competitor with 4. It is also the second consecutive major victory for a player trusting a Scotty Cameron by Titleist putter following Geoff Ogilvy’s winning performance at the U.S. Open with a Cameron prototype.
