Tops Golf Ball Count with 138 of 156 Players in Field
Fairhaven, MA (July 24, 2006) – Titleist has long been recognized for its golf ball usage and success across the worldwide professional tours, with club professionals and at every level of competitive golf. As the country’s top junior boy golfers gathered at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club in California for their national championship, an overwhelming 138 of the 156 players, more than 88 percent of the field, relied upon Titleist golf balls. The nearest competitor had 10 players. In addition to its golf ball success, Titleist also was the top choice across every major equipment category, including drivers (74), iron sets (64), utility irons (14), sand, lob and approach wedges (180) and putters (103).
It was an all-Titleist golf ball final eight, with the 17-year-old champion posting a 3 and 2 victory over his 15-year old opponent in the 36-hole championship match. In addition to both finalists relying upon the Pro V1x golf ball, the winner also trusted a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Studio Design putter for his success, while the runner-up relied upon the Pro Titanium 905R (9.5) driver, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand (56) and lob (60) wedges and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Studio Design putter.
Further, at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship played at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., Titleist accounted for over 83 percent of the field in the golf ball category with 130 players, compared to 12 for the nearest competitor. Titleist also was the driver choice of more players than any other competitor with 35.
In the all-Pro V1 golf ball final, the 13-year old Girls’ champion won on the 37th hole of the scheduled 36-hole championship, becoming the second-youngest player to win the event. The champion, who was down by as many three in the final match, won the 36th hole to force extra holes against her 16-year old opponent. The winner also trusted her putting game to a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Newport model.
