Tom Fazio Design to Test State’s Best Amateur Golfers
(SEAGROVE BEACH, Fla.) – Camp Creek Golf Club — the award-winning Tom Fazio design developed by St. Joe and located along Northwest Florida’s stunning Gulf Coast – will host a United States Golf Association ("USGA") sectional qualifier August 1-2 for the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship.
The USGA’s oldest championship, the U.S. Amateur was first played in 1895 at Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island. It is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA. The top finishers will receive invitations to play in the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship held August 21-27 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
"We are extremely excited to host this prominent and important event for the USGA," says Will Hopkins, Camp Creek General Manager. "We are ecstatic to have received such a positive response from the USGA and we believe Camp Creek serves as an excellent proving ground for players attempting to gain entry into the U.S Amateur Championship."
Qualified entrants will play from Camp Creek’s championship tees, which measure 7,159 and feature one of Florida’s highest slope ratings, at 145. The course’s final three holes – a 215-yard par-3, a 559-yard par-5 and a 453-yard par-4 – present one of the most difficult finishing stretches in the state.
Only non-professional golfers with a USGA Handicap Index of 2.4 or below are eligible to enter any of the U.S Amateur Qualifiers. For more information, visit www.usga.org or www.usamateur.org.

About Camp Creek
Since opening in 2001, Camp Creek has been consistently cited as one of Tom Fazio’s most thought-provoking, aesthetically-stunning design credits. Featuring a unique "dunescape" appearance, the course was created for nearby owners and guests at St. Joe’s WaterColor and WaterSound Beach residential and resort communities. From the back green tees, the course plays to a championship caliber yardage of 7,159 and a formidable slope rating of 145. Camp Creek’s five-tee configuration, which also includes gold (senior) and red (women’s) tees, accommodates players of all skill and experience levels. Travel + Leisure Golf recently recognized Camp Creek as "Florida’s No. 1 Course of the New Millennium." It has also been recognized for its environmental stewardship through designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS). Superintendent Larry Li! vingston was similarly distinguished as a certified Audubon Steward.
