CHAMP needs one more major to complete Grand Slam

Marlborough, MA-July 24th, 2006- CHAMP Spikes/MacNeill Engineering continued their pursuit of golf’s grand slam in memorable fashion with an emotional British Open victory, their 3rd Major Championship in 2006. CHAMP Spikes has claimed victories at The Masters, The US Open, and The British Open this year and the PGA Championship remains the only obstacle in completing the elusive "Grand Slam."

At the British Open, the victor shot a final round 5-under 67 to finish an astounding 18-under for his second straight Claret Jug. Again, CHAMP Spikes put its best foot forward at the British Open as five of the top 10 finishers sported CHAMP spikes. Overall, 66 of the 156 golfers (42%) at this year’s British Open wore CHAMP Spikes.

"Its exciting to be part of another championship this season, especially one with the magnitude of the British Open," said Harris MacNeill, President and son of founder Harold MacNeill. "Once again the results bear out what we have always known. CHAMP Spikes are the number one brand on tour."

"We are not limited to making only one type of spike. We make plastic spikes, like our massively popular Stingerâ?¢, a metal spike, like our Cermec® as was worn by the winner of The Open, and we make our hybrid ProStingerâ?¢ spike which combines the best qualities of the plastic and metal spikes. We make spikes for players of all abilities. We provide all golfers with many different options to suit the conditions and their skill level," continued MacNeill.

"The results this season have shown that the majority of the top players are choosing our spikes. Players of all levels should be given the option to choose their equipment. From the clubs they use, to the grips on the clubs, down to the spikes on the bottom of their shoes. CHAMP’s success both home and abroad this year shows how CHAMP produces spikes for all different terrains and with the traction all professional golfers need," said MacNeill.

CHAMP continues to be the number one brand worldwide winning 18 of 28 events on the PGA Tour, 10 of 14 events on the European Tour, and 11 of 16 events on the LPGA in 2006. On the PGA Tour, more than half of the top 20 players count on CHAMP Spikes, while on the European PGA Tour nearly all of the top 20 players sport CHAMP spikes.32 of the top 50 players in the world wear CHAMP.
