Field includes Several Seasoned NCPGA Players all Vying for the Title
VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California PGA is pleased to announce that ninety-five top club professionals will compete at the 2006 Northern California PGA Professional Championship July 31-August 1, 2006. This two-day, 36-hole stroke play competition, formerly known as the ‘NCPGA Club Professional and Stroke Play Championship’ will be hosted for the fourth consecutive year at Winchester Country Club (Meadow Vista, Calif.).
The field will include reigning NCPGA Stroke Play Champion Steve Hummel (Reno, Nev.), NCPGA Match Play Champion Bobby Schultze (Vallejo, Calif.) and NCPGA Player of the Year Mitch Lowe (Modesto, Calif.). "This championship is one of the most highly-anticipated tournaments within the season," said NCPGA Tournament Director Nancy Maul. "With so many talented players competing at such a premiere tract as Winchester, this championship will inevitably be a true testimony to golf."
Winchester Country Club, one of only seven courses co-designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr., is amongst Golf Digest Magazine’s Top-Rated Golf Courses for California (2005-2006) and on Golfweek’s List of America’s Top Residential Courses (2006).
According to Maul, this year’s champion will earn exemptions into the 2006 Reno-Tahoe Open, 2007 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and 2007 Nationwide Tour Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship.
The 2006 Northern California PGA Professional Championship also serves as the qualifying event for the 40th PGA Professional National Championship, slated for June 21-24, 2007 at the Crosswater Club and The Meadows Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore. Out of the competing field, seven players will advance to next year’s national championship.
This championship is made possible through presenting sponsors Titleist, Cobra, FootJoy, Club Car and Buick as well as supporting sponsors ILT Golf Vacations and pinsheet.com.
