Two modifications announced for Rolex Rankings

August 4, 2006

LANCASHIRE, England, Aug. 3, 2006 – Following yesterday’s Rolex Rankings Board and Technical Committee bi-annual meeting convened during the Weetabix Women’s British Open, two modifications to the Rolex Rankings calculation procedures were announced. Effective with this week’s Weetabix Women’s British Open final results, there will no longer be a minimum number of events for a player to be eligible for the rankings and a minimum divisor of 35 will be introduced.

"With the elimination of the minimum number of events required as well as the implementation of a minimum divisor, the Rolex Rankings will more fairly represent the players from around the world who are playing golf at the highest level on a full-time basis," said Chris Higgs, chairman of the Rolex Rankings Technical Committee. "Although any player competing in an eligible event will now be ranked after just one event, we took into consideration that the top-200 players are consistently playing in more than 35 events in the 104-week period. The divisor will ensure that players’ performances will be weighted and valued in a more balanced fashion against other global competitors."

Rolex Rankings shares the established men’s world rankings philosophy of awarding points based on field strength and evaluates players performance over a rolling two-year period weighted in favor of the current year with even more importance placed on the most recent 13 weeks.

About the Rolex Rankings

The Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings-which were developed at the May 2004 World Congress of Women’s Golf-is the first-ever world rankings system for women’s golf sanctioned by the five major women’s professional golf Tours: the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA); Ladies European Tour (LET); Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association of Japan (LPGA of Japan); Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA); Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG); as well as the Ladies Golf Union (LGU), which administers the Weetabix Women’s British Open. The Rolex Rankings are the only women’s world rankings that incorporate player performances from the five major tours and the Duramed Futures Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA. R2IT, an independent software development company developed the software for the Rolex Rankings and maintains the Rolex Rankings on a weekly basis.
