LINNA GOLF in Finland, one of the most spectacular new golf courses in Europe and the latest member of the PGA European Tour Courses Group, is offering international golfers the opportunity to improve their game at the Anssi Kankkonen Golf Academy.
Anssi, a former European Tour professional, is highly regarded as a golf instructor and visitors to his academy benefit from one of the best practice facilities in Europe, also utilised by Linna Golf’s touring professional Mikko Ilonen (pictured), who had a top-20 finish at this year’s British Open.
The expansive driving range features quality grass tees with target greens protected by bunkers to aim at. There’s a short game area with practice bunkers, plus a variety of greenside slopes and hollows to test chipping skills. There’s also a huge practice putting green, three times the size of a standard green, to perfect scoring skills.
"This is a top class practice facility and the ideal place for golf instruction," said Anssi, who works alongside top female instructor Satu Tammisalo at the academy. "From the grass tee driving range to the short game area and 18-hole putting course, there’s plenty of space and variety for golfers to improve every aspect of their game."
Two-day weekend instruction breaks at the Anssi Kankkonen Golf Academy at Linna Golf cost â?åÂ350 (£240) per person (based on two people sharing a double room) and include:
– 12 hours’ expert tuition over two days (golf balls are included)

Alternatively, individual lessons can be booked as an optional extra with Linna Golf’s golf package, which includes:
– one night’s accommodation in a double room

– bucket of balls on the practice range
– 18-holes on the championship golf course
Package price: â?åÂ130 (£90) per person per night, based on two people sharing a room; plus lessons at â?åÂ60 (£40) per hour.
Linna Golf is Europe’s best new golf course and has been hailed by golf legend and five-times British Open Champion Peter Thomson as a "national treasure". The naturally beautiful and undulating 6,624m (7,244 yard) course cuts through birch and pine forest and offers both an enjoyable experience for the average golfer and a challenge for better players and pros thanks to a variety of carefully sited tee positions on each hole.
The stylish Vanajan Linna Hotel, built in the early 1920s as a private hunting lodge for a wealthy industrialist to entertain VIPs, including the Finnish President, is the only one of its kind in the country and is famous for its impressive interior and décor.
