Marlborough, MA-August 7th, 2006- CHAMP Spikes/MacNeill Engineering swept the board this weekend winning the three major tour events. In England, Sherri Steinhauer wearing the CHAMP Lady Stinger Spike,â?¢ won the Weetabix Women’s British Open for her 3rd British Open title. Across the Atlantic at the Buick Open, the champion captured the title finishing a whopping -24 under par en route to becoming the youngest PGA golfer in history to 50 career wins. Finally, in Malmo, Sweden it took a playoff for the winner, wearing CHAMP’s Scorpion Stingerâ?¢, to claim victory at the Entrercard Scandinavian Masters, his first European Tour title.
Sherri Steinhauer went back to the site of her first British Open and captured her second title on that course while battling rain and tricky terrain. Both times she counted on CHAMP spikes to lead her to victory and she finished with a 4 stroke lead for her 7th win of the season. Steinhauer finished -7 under par for her 3rd British title, the first since its new designation as a woman’s major.
"In an event where a player would need the best traction possible, it would be the Weetabix Women’s British Open," said Harris MacNeill, President and CEO of MacNeill Engineering. "During play the course was drenched with rain and the Lady Stingerâ?¢ is the perfect spike to battle those conditions. The superior traction features that CHAMP spikes provide; extreme traction, comfort, and the peace of mind in knowing your on solid footing, lead to the majority of the players choosing our brand of spike. Our unique traction features were what attracted the players to choose CHAMP."
On the European PGA, CHAMP was victorious at Entrercard Scandinavian Masters continuing CHAMP’s European dominance. Overall, almost all the top 20 European PGA golfers sport CHAMP Spikes. At the Entrercard Scandinavian Masters, 101 of the 159 competitors, a walloping 64%, chose the CHAMP brand. As would be expected with overwhelming numbers like these, CHAMP dominated the leader board as well, claiming 7 out of the top ten places in the tournament.
Back in the U.S., at the Buick Open, the winner shot a steady 6 under par in every round as he became the youngest golfer in PGA history to 50 wins. The winner finished 3 strokes up on the field for his second straight title, following his British Open victory last month. Both times the champion was sporting CHAMP Spikes en route to his victories and CHAMP’s industry leading 19th PGA victory this season.
"The Buick Open was special for several reasons. We were glad to be part of golf history with this monumental accomplishment," said Harris MacNeill. "CHAMP’s quality spikes are evident as over half of the top players on the PGA ask for our spikes and again, CHAMP shows its diversity as we picked up wins on different continents and varied types of courses."
With these victories, CHAMP now owns 19 of 31 PGA TOUR titles, 12 of 18 on the European Tour and 10 of 18 on the LPGA.
