CondeÌø?? Nast Traveler #51 in "Top 100 Golf Resorts" Golf for Women #43 in "Top 50 Courses for Women"
Harbor Springs, Mich., August 7, 2006 – Boyne USA Resorts, operator and developer of four-season resorts in the United States and Canada, is pleased to announce that Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, Michigan has been named among two highly respected resort and course lists.
Boyne Highlands Resort, with 72 challenging holes, ranked #51 in the Condeï?? Nast Traveler reader’s poll of the world’s "Top 100 Golf Resorts" and entered at #43 in the "Top 50 Courses for Women" by Golf for Women magazine.
In the Condeï?? Nast Traveler ranking, Boyne Highlands finished ahead of acclaimed resorts such as Pinehurst, Lake Las Vegas, Bay Hill, and the Old Course Hotel at St. Andrews. For context, Dublin’s K Club, host of this September’s Ryder Cup Matches, placed just ahead of Boyne Highlands at #48. The internationally distributed Condeï?? Nast Traveler magazine’s 11th annual reader survey, published in the June issue, included golf resorts in North and Central America; Caribbean and Atlantic, and Scotland and Ireland.
Condeï?? Nast employed two independent research firms to poll thousands of their readers for nomination and rating of golf resorts based on criteria including: golf course design, speed of play, accommodations, food and dining, service and facilities. Boyne Highlands and The Inn at Bay Harbor – A Renaissance Golf Resort owned and operated by Boyne USA Resorts which ranked #8, were Michigan’s only resorts to make the magazine’s Top 100; and Boyne Highlands joined only four others receiving a perfect score of 100 in the "golf course design" category.
Course architect Arthur Hills designed the appropriately named Arthur Hills course and Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed The Heather course at Boyne Highlands – also home to The Moor course and the Donald Ross Memorial, featuring replicated holes from Ross’s most famous courses. Boyne Highlands offers 72 holes of nationally acclaimed championship golf, exceptional dining and meeting venues, a spa facility, as well as endless activity options such as downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, and tennis.
Guests can choose from over 415 luxurious accommodations ranging from hotel rooms and family suites, to spacious condominiums and cottages, each offering a variety of floor plans. In addition to the hotel’s recent upgrades including all-new plush bedding and the resort’s well-appointed accommodations, wireless Internet access in most common areas and hotel rooms is an added convenience for guests.
The Condeï?? Nast survey’s top-rated resort was the Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico. "Our club-swinging subscribers rated an array of golfing destinations," the Condeï?? Nast Traveler article reads, "the ones that provide the most memorable golfing vacations, great service, plush lodgings, and, of course, dazzling courses are presented on these pages. When planning your next vacation, use our scorecard of the top spots to book a tee time and then kick off your spikes."
In the July/August issue of Golf for Women magazine, The Heather golf course of Boyne Highlands Resort earned the #43 spot in the "Top 50 Courses for Women."
Golf for Women enlisted the aid of 100 certifiably low- to mid-handicap women to refine this year’s list of woman-friendly public courses in the United States. Course design, felt to be most critical by Golf for Women, was assigned the greatest significance. Additional evaluation criteria included environment, memorability and conditioning.
Golf for Women magazine had the following to say about The Heather course, "Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., this layout, which winds through thick forest and a blueberry bog, is very fair for women and places a premium on shotmaking. And the accommodations at the Highlands are first rate."
"This is a big year for Boyne USA Resorts," said Bernie Friedrich, vice president of Boyne’s golf and retail operations. "Celebrating its 40th anniversary, The Heather hosted the 95th Michigan Amateur Championship, and now being named in two highly respected top golf resort lists – we couldn’t be happier," Friedrich adds.
