Nike Golf’s Marc Warren Wins Scandinavian Masters
BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 7, 2006) – Tiger Woods continues to make history, both with the number and style of his victories, as well as with the young age at which he’s doing it. At the age of 30 years, 7 months, Woods captured his 50th PGA Tour victory at the Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan, to become the youngest player in history to reach that mark. His Buick Open triumph also represents his fourth 2006 PGA Tour victory and brings to 10 the total number of PGA Tour wins this year by members of Nike Golf’s Tour Staff.
Since turning professional in 1996, Woods has relied on Nike Golf products to inspire him to perform at his best, all with the ultimate goal in mind – TO WIN. Fifty PGA Tour wins and 10 years later, Woods and Nike Golf have done just that, having grown up together and enjoying tremendous success that is also reflected throughout Nike Golf’s entire Tour Staff.
On a regular basis, Nike Golf designers and engineers work closely with Woods and each of the talented Nike Golf athletes to develop golf clubs, balls, footwear and apparel that will help them and all golfers to perform their best. This year, with 10 PGA Tour victories in the U.S., 16 wins worldwide as well has having the most driver, irons, fairway woods and wedge wins on the PGA Tour, Nike Golf is tracking on what promises to be another banner year.
For his 50th PGA Tour title, Woods produced massive drives on the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club course using his Nike SasQuatch Tour Driver. The award-winning SasQuatch is known for having the highest Moment of Inertia (MOI) in golf, a visually distinctive yellow sole design and lower center of gravity. Through the power of geometry, the SasQuatch provides more forgiveness, greater distance and better accuracy. With the winning combination of the SasQuatch Driver and Nike One Platinum ball, Woods averaged 316 yards off the tee and ranked first in driving distance.
Using his Nike Forged Blades, Woods’ approach shots to the greens led him to an 81.9% average in greens hit in regulation. Woods also made a career-high 28 birdies during the tournament. Add to that, he’s 21 for 21 when leading by more than one stroke heading into the final round, and 36 for 39 when leading or tied for the lead entering the final round.
Accompanying his SasQuatch and Nike Blades in his bag were his Ignite Fairway Woods, the T60 and T40 and his 56 and 60-degree Nike wedges. Woods also wore his own line of Nike Golf apparel from the Tiger Woods Collection, SP 7 TW Nike Golf footwear and the Dri-FIT Tour Glove.
The roar of Nike Golf’s success doesn’t stop in the United States. Nike Golf’s Marc Warren of Scotland captured his first victory on the European Tour at the Scandinavian Masters bringing Nike Golf’s international victories to five in 2006. Warren benefited from the combination of the Nike SasQuatch’s brilliant geometry and the Nike One Black ball’s distance and spin control. Completing his winning arsenal are his Nike Forged Blades 3-PW, Nike Slingshot Tour Hybrid 18 degree and 56 and 60-degree Nike SV Wedges. Warren also wore Nike Golf apparel, Nike SP-6 footwear and the Nike Dri-FIT Tour Glove.
