ATLANTA – August 8, 2006 – The Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions Championship is returning to Hawks Ridge Golf Club in suburban Atlanta, Sept. 8-9. The top 16 players on the Grand Champions money list following this past weekend’s 3M Championship are eligible for the season-ending, 36-hole Championship. In addition, two players will be invited to participate on sponsor’s exemptions.
The 16 players eligible for the Grand Champions Championship are (in order of their standing on the money list): Mike McCullough, Hale Irwin, Bruce Summerhays, Dave Eichelberger, Graham Marsh, Jay Sigel, Tom Wargo, John Jacobs, J.C. Snead, Bob Eastwood, Mike Hill, Lee Trevino, Jim Colbert, Jim Dent, John Bland and Raymond Floyd. Players have until Friday, September 1 to commit to playing in the tournament.
"Last year’s Grand Champions Championship was a huge success, and we’re delighted to bring the event back to Georgia-Pacific’s hometown of Atlanta again this year," said Alan Thielemann, Georgia-Pacific’s vice president – marketing. "The Championship has the strongest field of the year on the Grand Champions circuit and could feature multiple World Golf Hall of Fame members competing this year."
The Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions competition features players age 60 and older vying for an additional purse and title at five selected Champions Tour events. The Grand Champions play for weekly purses of $175,000, with $400,000 up for grabs at the Championship. Mike McCullough, who leads the Grand Champions money list heading into the Championship, won last year’s event and its $85,000 first prize.

The 6,826-yard, par-72 Hawks Ridge layout is one of the finest in the state of Georgia. Golf Week ranks Hawks Ridge 50th on its list of top 100 modern courses, and Golf Digest ranks it 81st on its list of America’s top 100 courses.
