SUNLAND, Calif. — Well-known for delivering the long ball, World Long Drive Senior Champion and Horsepower Golf owner Pat Dempsey is putting down his driver in exchange for a Major League Baseball microphone. Dempsey has been selected to sing the Star-Spangled Banner and O Canada on Friday, August 18th for the Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
Dempsey is no stranger to baseball. Prior to his golf equipment career, Dempsey played professional, AAA baseball for teams such as Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins. His brother, Rick Dempsey, is the the first base coach for the Orioles and his nephew Greg Zaun is the catcher for the Blue Jays.
"It’s an amazing opportunity to sing the national anthems, and I’m extremely honored," says Pat Dempsey who sang the national anthem and God Bless the U.S.A. at the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship in 2002 and then later that evening won the championship in the senior division. "Of course, I’m not a professional singer, but I think everyone should do or say something that shows their appreciation for where they live, and that’s what I want to do. I want to step up to the plate and make the statement that I love where we live."
