The Mississippi Gulf Coast Golf Association 2006 Coast Open field is set with a purse of $10,000. Attached are the official pairings and tee times for Round 1 on Friday, August 18th at the Jack Nicklaus designed Grand Bear Golf Club and Round 2 on Saturday, August 19th at Diamondhead Country Club (Cardinal). Final round Sunday at Davis Love III’s Shell Landing Golf Club. This is our first Coast Open since Katrina hit the "Golf Coast" after last year’s event. We are excited about the fact that we had to expand the field to accommodate a record number of participates with a record purse for this event after such a trying year.
Thanks to our host golf courses, we were able to expand our field slightly to 98 players. The defending champion, Steve Wilson, is in the field and will try to complete the "Coast Slam" as the reining Coast Amateur Champion. This should prove to be a highly competitive championship with a very strong field.
The championship courses are in very good shape this year however there is still some expected minimal scarring from Hurricane Katrina and routine cultural practices. For these reasons, we will allow players to improve their position within one tournament scorecard of their original lie, no nearer the hole, through the green while staying in the same condition (i.e. rough, fairway). The tournament committee feels that by allowing "preferred lies" in this event we will promote fair play.
This event will be flighted based on 36-hole totals. The Championship flight will have 30 players (and ties) and all other flights will have approximately 15 players each. The Championship flight will award prizes to the top 15 places. All other flights will award prizes to the top 5 places. (*Based on a full field of 90 players and subject to
change).
Practice/play will be allowed on any tournament course during the competition as long as it is not on the same day that the tournament round will be held at that particular golf course.
Senior & Super Senior Division: As a bonus, there will be a Senior Division (age 50 – 59) and a Super Senior Division (age
60 and over) each of which will award prizes to the top 5 places. All play will take place from the same set of tees so that senior
competitors will be eligible to compete for all titles and prizes.
