Christian Goetz of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, and Kelsey Meyer of St. Louis, Missouri, were named NHSGCA PowerBilt Players of the Year for boys and girls high school golf. This is the second year of the awards program, which honored 43 boys and girls as All-Americans and Players of Achievement.
Goetz played for four seasons at Burgettstown High School and was team captain the last two years. He was the 2005 state co-champion, district champion and sectional medalist. He was selected to both the All-Conference and All-Section teams four times. Christian was Player of the Year in the Southwest Pennsylvania Junior Golf Tour in both 2005 and 2006. A multi-sport athlete, he scored more than 1,000 points in three seasons on the Burgettstown basketball team and served as team captain for two years. He also was named to the All-Section basketball team three times and earned Player of the Year honors once. Goetz served as president of the National Honor Society in 2006 and finished at the top of his class. He is a volunteer tutor and instructor in both junior golf and youth basketball. He also volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
Meyer is entering her senior season at Nerinx Hall High School. She is a two-time state and district champion and owns the low round for the Missouri State High School Girls Championship (2 under par). She has been ranked No. 1 in Missouri Junior Girls Golf for two years. She was nominated for an ESPN Espy Award this year. A National Honor Society member, Kelsey participates in math competitions and has been recognized for her writing skills. She has been active on the Student Council throughout her high school career and has been elected senior class vice president. She volunteers with Beyond Housing, painting houses, and has traveled to Veracruz, Mexico, to help families there.
