Wintergreen Resort adds twosome at Stoney Creek, Devils Knob courses
WINTERGREEN, Va. — A pair of golf club professionals who have called Florida home have headed north to lead the staffs at the two golf courses at Wintergreen Resort, one of the premier mountain golf destinations in the United States.
Geoff Redgrave takes over as head professional at Stoney Creek, coming from The Ritz-Carlton Jupiter Golf Club in Palm Beach, while Tim Crandall is the new head professional at Devils Knob, coming from Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando.
"Adding Geoff and Tim is a significant step to further our commitment to golf," said Sean Taylor, director of golf for Wintergreen Resort. "Not only will they be involved with the two golf courses, but they will play major roles in the development of the Wintergreen Golf Academy."
Redgrave returns to the same area where he first picked up the game. A native of Bethesda, Md., he was a collegiate standout – in baseball, rather than golf – at the University of Delaware and was a draft choice of the Cleveland Indians. In 1984, while pitching for the summer-league Waynesboro Generals, Redgrave joined some teammates at a driving range in Harrisonburg, about an hour from Wintergreen. It was the first time he ever hit golf balls.
Redgrave has split recent golf seasons between Palm Beach and the Tam-O-Shanter Club on Long Island, N.Y. Previously he served 11 years at the renowned PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., where he was Director of Instruction.
Crandall, from New Milford, Pa., was first assistant at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Fla., where he developed numerous instructional programs and was an active competitor in North Florida PGA Section championship tournaments. Besides his position at Devils Knob, Crandall will assume the role as Head Instructor for the Wintergreen Golf Academy.
Wintergreen Resort also announced two additions to its Golf Academy staff:
Rusty Proniske, First Assistant Professional for Stoney Creek golf course and Wintergreen Golf Academy Instructor; from Chatham, N.Y., Proniske is a disciple of famed instructor Fred Griffin and LPGA legend Kathy Whitworth.
Shaun Fronk, First Assistant Professional for Devils Knob golf course and Wintergreen Golf Academy Instructor; a Penn State graduate, he most recently was an assistant professional and staff instructor at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Fla.
