Woods and Nike Golf Enjoying Surging Dominance on The PGA Tour
BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 21, 2006) – Tiger Woods and Nike Golf continue to write history together by dominating the PGA Tour with win after win. The world’s number one player put on a PGA Championship Sunday exhibition of how to dominate a major championship and how to dominate the PGA Tour. This dazzling display was provided by Woods using PGA Tour dominating Nike Golf products.
En route to capturing Woods’ second major title of the season and 12th major of his career, each shot was artistic, and each round was a work of art that culminated in a Championship masterpiece. This year’s winningest athlete ultimately left the rest of the field five shots behind and conquered the longest course in major championship history by using the winningest driver/ball combination, the Nike SasQuatch and Nike One Platinum Ball. The SasQuatch/One Platinum combination helped him to drive the ball an average distance of 318 yards.
Also contributing to Woods’ success at Medinah Country Club, was his precision shot making with his Nike Forged Blades, which gave him the number one ranking in greens in regulation with 78.3%. Accompanying the SasQuatch driver and Nike Blades in his bag were his Ignite T60 fairway wood, T40 and his 56 and 60-degree Nike wedges.
His near flawless performance moved him closer to Jack Nicklaus’ record number of 18 major championship victories, and brings to 11 the total number of PGA Tour wins by members of Nike Golf’s Tour staff. Woods is joined in the 2006 PGA Tour champions’ circle by fellow Nike Golf athletes Chad Campbell, Rory Sabbatini, Stephen Ames, Chris Couch, Carl Pettersson and Trevor Immelman. The evidence behind Nike Golf’s authoritative Tour dominance is:
31% of the wins on the PGA Tour have been made by Nike Golf Tour Staff members with 11 out of 34 events
Most driver wins with 11 by the Nike SasQuatch Driver
Most iron wins with 11
Most fairway woods wins with 10
Most wedge wins with 11
Nike Golf has six players in the top 20 on the 2006 PGA Tour money list
In addition to his Nike Golf equipment, ball and apparel, Woods last week provided a Tour preview of Nike Golf’s new SP-8 TW Tour footwear, featuring the new Power Channel technology and available in stores this fall, and used them to stride to victory and stamp out the rest of the field. Woods also wore the Nike Dri-FIT Tour Glove.
