One Of The Country’s Largest Single-Day Amateur Charity Golf Events Will Attract 500+ Golfers At Three Premier NJ Golf Facilities; Event To Benefit the Tomorrows Children’s Fund, the CJ Foundation For SIDS, And the Imus Ranch
Far Hills, NJ, August 21, 2006 â?¦ The 17th Annual Cox Classic, presented for the second year by North Fork Bank and hosted by the Steven A. Cox Foundation, will take place on September 18 at three premier New Jersey golf facilities. The event, which is one of the country’s largest single-day amateur charity golf tournaments, is supported by more than 500 golfers and some 100 corporate sponsors, all coming together to benefit the Tomorrows Children’s Fund, the CJ Foundation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and the Imus Ranch for kids with cancer.
The Cox Classic, which has raised more than $5.5 million during its 16-year history, takes place simultaneously at Fiddler’s Elbow Golf Club (Forest, River and Meadow courses), New Jersey National Golf Club, and Hawk Pointe Golf Club. The event combines one of the largest charity golf tournaments in the country with the excitement of the Imus Teed Off Celebrity Challenge, a special celebrity competition, which is broadcast live on WFAN Radio’s popular "Mike and the Mad Dog" program.
The Honorary Chair for this year’s Classic is NBC News icon Tom Brokaw. In addition to featuring a wide variety of celebrities at the event, the Cox Classic offers an array of activities and amenities that make it one of the most sought-after charity golf events in the Northeast. In addition to an assortment of gifts and prizes—including a silent auction offering a breadth of sports memorabilia and special VIP getaways—the event culminates with a live drawing for a brand new Mercedes-Benz GL450, donated as part of a fundraising campaign for the charities by Mercedes-Benz Tri-State Dealers. Tickets for this raffle are on sale for $100 each—with a maximum of 1,500 being sold—and can be purchased at www.coxcharityclassic.com by clicking on the "Mercedes-Benz Raffle" link.
"The Steven A. Cox Foundation is extremely proud to host our 17th consecutive Cox Classic, which benefits three outstanding charities—the Tomorrows Children’s Fund, the CJ Foundation for SIDS, and the Imus Ranch," said Mike Marion, Tournament Chairman of the Cox Classic. "Our Foundation is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the life of Steven Cox, and preserving his legacy through philanthropic initiatives supporting critical children’s causes. The Cox Classic is a wonderful example of that mission at work."
Marion adds, "For participants, the Cox Classic is a chance to be part of something special, as we compete on five excellent golf courses, then celebrate the life of an inspirational friend and the work of three distinguished charities. For corporate sponsors, this tournament offers great brand exposure and a chance to entertain important clients and customers, or reward employees for a job well done."
