First appearance in Springfield since 2001
Springfield, IL – The State Farm Classic announced today that Annika Sorenstam has committed to play in the upcoming State Farm Classic. Tournament dates are August 31 – September 3 at The Rail Golf Club in Springfield. Sorenstam last played in the State Farm Classic in 2001, carrying the lead into the final round only to be outgunned by Kate Golden’s smoldering Sunday 63.
Executive Director Doug Eibling said, "This is great news for the State Farm Classic and for golf fans of Central Illinois. To be able to welcome back to Springfield the number one ranked player in women’s golf is truly something special."
Sorenstam currently sits in third place on the 2006 LPGA money list with two victories on the season, including the U.S. Open, where she battled defending State Farm Classic champion Pat Hurst in an 18-hole playoff.
Sorenstam’s schedule for the week will have her competing in the State Farm Classic Pro-Am hosted by IBM on Wednesday, August 30. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are free admission days at the Classic. Single day tickets for the championship rounds, played Thursday – Sunday, are available at all Qik-n-EZ locations in Central Illinois for $18. Tickets will be available at the gate for $20 per day.
