Volvik Golf Balls exclusive USA distributor FLGolf, Inc. of Summerfield Florida released information to the golf press regarding their relationship with the Ohio Golf Association (OAG).
After the dust has settled, the tournament played, and the non-disclosure agreement time limit met, the relationship between the OGA and Volvik can now be told. Tuesday August 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd are two days that will go down in the history of the game of golf, as maverick OGA held its first one ball tournament. The 36 hole Ohio Champions Tournament was held at the 6,822 yard Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield, Ohio. The one ball they chose was the Volvik PROsPECT! Every player in the field was required to play the same ball.
The OGA began their quest to look into golf ball technology some five years ago. In an effort to level the playing field amongst golfers of all swing speeds the OGA looked for a uniform ball with high spin and low compression. The OGA is no stranger to conflict when it comes to dealing with the USGA. From being the first to recognize non-metal spikes, to a 1980’s local ruling allowing the tamping down of spike marks in competition. That rule since rescinded raised the ire of the USGA. Many in golf were watching this test of a single ball for all participants.
FLGolf, Inc. President Chuck Womer said, "We’re thrilled to be a part of this great experiment. This should put to rest any questions of the strength of our research and development at Volvik. The PROsPECT ball is quite simply the best ball available for the widest demographic playing the game today. We are very pleased to have been an important part of this event and want to thank all who participated in both the planning and the playing of the tournament."
Womer went on to say, "The unique construction of the PROsPECT seventy compression three piece ball is very much the state of the art in golf ball manufacturing. The Z-Urethane cover gives the ball great durability and spin and when combined with the dual core Volvik developed, provides optimum performance for the widest range of swing speeds. We’ve heard from all levels of golfers regarding distance gains for slower swing speeds, to high praise from professional golfers regarding spin and outstanding accuracy."
FLGolf, Inc. Operations Manager John Gilliam, PGA said, "Due to the fact that the ball has a conventional looking cover some of our retailers had a little trouble getting their minds around the fact that this wasn’t a Crystal ball. Everyone knows Volvik as the innovator of this field but few expected the leap in technology that the PROsPECT ball brings to the table."
"In a market dominated by a mighty few Volvik has once again taken a lead roll. The ultra-premium golf ball market has been priced too high for most golfers. Compression of those balls was also a factor relating to performance for slower swing speeds. With a street price of $29.95 per dozen the PROsPECT is making believers out of golfers nationwide," said spokesman Glen Coombe of Volvik/FLGolf.
Volvik Golf Balls manufactures several different golf ball styles. The famous industry leading Crystal golf ball is a two piece 70 compression construction. The new Crystal Pro 3 piece is an 80 compression success story just released by Volvik.
