#1 Brand on Tour Enjoys Yet Another Big Weekend
Marlborough, MA-August 29, 2006-The champion at the PGA’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio was not about to let any one or any condition rain on his chance to capture his 52nd career title. Overcoming harsh rain and driving wind, the champion captured the crown in an exciting four hole playoff. The victor wore traditional metal Cermec® spikes for stability and balance in the unsightly weather conditions, while the runner-up counted on the Scorpion Stingerâ?¢. Overall, seven of the top ten finishers wore CHAMP Spikes at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Just two hours away in Dublin Ohio, CHAMP earned a second victory of the day. At the LPGA’s Wendy’s Championship for Children, the winner finished at 15 under par to take home her third tournament title of the year wearing CHAMP’s Lady Scorpion Stingerâ?¢ Spike. The winner won the title by three strokes and CHAMP continued to be a force at the Wendy’s Championship with 13 of the top 20 finishers.
"This weekend is a perfect example of how we became the number one brand on tour" said Harris MacNeill, president of CHAMP. "Here you have three different players, all with different traction preferences, playing in different conditions. Two of them chose our Scorpion and one of them chose our traditional Cermec®. We didn’t become the number one brand on tour by making just one type of spike. Our plastic Stinger, our metal Cermecâ?¢ and our hybrid Pro Stingerâ?¢ give all golfers options depending on the conditions and their own personal preference."
Additionally, in Gettysburg, Pa on the Duramed Future’s Tour, CHAMP was champion again. Song-Hee Kim of Seoul, Korea defeated Jin Young Pak of Kang Leung, Korea in a two-hole playoff to collect her fifth season win at The Gettysburg Championship. In addition to winning the championship, Kim also earned the distinction of being the winner of The CHAMP Eastern Challenge.
The Eastern Challenge is a six-week event sponsored by CHAMP spikes for all the women on the Futures Tour who wear CHAMP spikes, as virtually all of the players are eligible, as a whopping 94% of the players on tour wear CHAMP. Over the six-week period, Song Hee Kim was the model of consistency, winning twice and finishing in the top ten two other times, upholding the CHAMP spikes belief of consistency week in and week out.
With these victories, CHAMP now owns 22 of 34 PGA TOUR titles, 13 of 20 on the European Tour and 11 of 20 on the LPGA.
