Carlsbad California Based Golf Company Will Support Tour
CARLSBAD, Calif. (September 12, 2006) – The California Junior Tour (CJT) will begin its sixth season in September. At that time, the tour will become known as the California Junior Tour presented by TaylorMade.
The California Junior Tour sites its mission as "an opportunity for talented junior golfers to enjoy their golf game while gaining tournament experience, personal development, and exposure to college golf coaches, all in a competitive environment on some of California’s top golf courses."
The CJT will hold 21 thirty six-hole weekend events for fields of up to 100 players from September 2006 through April 2007, including a fall and spring championship. The fields are open to advanced golfers between the ages of 11 and 18 and broken down into divisions by age and gender.
"We couldn’t be more pleased to have support from a company like TaylorMade," says Bernie O’Brien, the CJT’s executive director and co-founder. "TaylorMade’s assistance will make it easier on the juniors and their parents by supplying golf balls for all participants in all 22 events."
Also part of the CJT family is Johnny Gonzales, PGA. Gonzales is the President and Tour Director. Among his accolades are San Diego Chapter of the SCPGA Teacher of the Year, 2003 and Southern California Section PGA Junior Golf Leader, 2001. "I’ve been associated with TaylorMade for six years," says Gonzales. "This has been a labor of love for us so to have them step up and help us out with this tour shows that TaylorMade cares about the game of golf and its future."
Robin English, director of Global Sports Marketing for TaylorMade adds, "Bernie and Johnny have developed a wonderful opportunity for juniors in the Southwest to compete at the highest level. We were more than happy to lend our support to this brilliant program."
